The Uyo Senatorial District Media Practitioners’ Forum heartily congratulates His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, and the resilient people of Akwa Ibom State on the historic groundbreaking ceremony of the Ibom Medical City and the 350-Bed Ibom International Hospital.

The ceremony marks far more than the commencement of another infrastructure project. It is the birth of a transformative vision that will redefine healthcare delivery, stimulate economic growth, and position Akwa Ibom State as a premier destination for medical excellence and innovation in Africa.

By embarking on the development of a world-class medical ecosystem encompassing specialist healthcare services, medical education, research, digital health, pharmaceutical production, and allied services, the ARISE AGENDA is once again demonstrating its commitment to building enduring institutions that will positively impact generations yet unborn.

This landmark initiative is a bold response to the challenge of medical tourism and the enormous capital flight associated with overseas healthcare. More importantly, it brings hope to millions of Nigerians and Africans who desire access to cutting-edge medical care within the continent. It is an investment in human capital, job creation, knowledge transfer, and the future prosperity of our people.

We are particularly inspired by the Governor’s aspiration to reverse the disturbing trend of outbound medical tourism and the associated loss of billions of naira annually to foreign healthcare systems. The Ibom Medical City represents a strategic investment designed not only to retain healthcare spending within Nigeria but also to attract patients from across Africa, positioning Akwa Ibom State as a leading destination for medical tourism, innovation, and excellence on the continent.

Beyond healthcare, this landmark project promises to create jobs, stimulate investments, facilitate knowledge transfer, deepen research and innovation, and nurture a new generation of medical professionals and healthcare entrepreneurs. It is, indeed, an investment in the health, prosperity, and global competitiveness of our people.
